Etymology

From Middle English magyk, from Old French magique (noun and adjective), from Latin magicus (adjective), magica (noun use of feminine form of magicus), from Ancient Greek μαγικός (magikós, “magical”), from μάγος (mágos, “magus”). Ultimately from Old Iranian, probably derived from Proto-Indo-European meh₂gh- (“to be able to, to help; power, sorcerer”). Displaced native Middle English dweomer craft (“magic, magic arts”) (from Old English dwimor (“phantom, illusion”) + cræft (“art”)), Old English galdorcræft (“magic, enchantment”), Old English drȳcræft (“magic, sorcery”).

Magickal Thought

Placebo Effect and Developed Magic

At its core, magick often arises from emotional needs when practical solutions are lacking. This response can become a socially-codified norm, as observed in practices like Voodoo/Vodou/Hoodoo, where mental functions seemingly exert power over our bodies. The "developed magic" concept highlights how such norms emerge within communities.

Interconnectivity and Symbolism

Symbols have the power to alter internal states, leading to the concept of "magical consciousness." This theory emphasizes the interrelatedness of all things in the world, suggesting that expressing anxieties or desires can be reparative.

Child's Mind and Magical Thinking

Magical thinking, most prevalent in children aged 2 to 7, illustrates the direct influence of personal thoughts on the world. This developmental phase underscores the significance of subjective perception in shaping reality.

Schizotypy and Altered States

Schizotypy theory explores a continuum of personality characteristics, from dissociative states to extreme conditions like schizophrenia. This spectrum highlights the complex relationship between perception and reality.

The Power of Utterance

The enigmatic word "abracadabra" reflects the idea of creation through speech, resonating with the concept of high vibrational magick. Uttered words can serve as both barriers and gateways, shaping our subjective understanding of the universe.

Breath and Language

Across cultures, words related to "breath" signify spiritual essence, linking language to the subjective and objective realms. Practices like rhythmic breathing in ritual work serve as a bridge between conscious and unconscious minds.

The Magical Use of Speech

Ancient texts like the Greek Magical Papyri explore the magical potency of speech and sounds, with vowels symbolically linked to celestial bodies. This symbolic reassignment of meaning underscores the transformative power of language.

MAJIQ

Drawing from Arabic and Persian roots, my word MAJIQ involves creating change within subjective and objective universes through willed intent. This practice encompasses both Lesser and Greater Black Majiq, each with distinct aims and methods.

White Magic and Deception

White magic, often associated with religious rituals, seeks to deceive consciousness through autohypnosis and mental imagery. By invoking deities or daemons, practitioners aim to manifest desired outcomes.

Baneful Magick and Psychological Influence

Baneful magick operates through psychological manipulation, inducing placebo effects in targets. Success hinges on implanting psychological mandates that lead to self-destructive behaviors.

The Duality of Black Magic

Black Magic encompasses both Lesser and Greater forms, influencing the objective and subjective universes, respectively. While Lesser Black Magic relies on subtle manipulation, Greater Black Magic aims for profound personal transcension.

The Magical Link

Central to the magickal practice is the concept of the Magical Link, connecting subjective and objective realms. This link facilitates the manifestation of change, guided by the will and intention of the practitioner.

Conclusion

In essence, magick serves as a multifaceted exploration of consciousness, perception, and transformation. By understanding its diverse theories and practices, we gain insight into the intricate interplay between mind, reality, and the unknown.
