Alif Ba Laam Yaa Sin شی ل ب ا

The Sufi Science of Letters (‘Ilm al-Huruf) assigns metaphysical attributes to the ABJAD alphabet. The word IBLIS ش ی ل ب ا (alif ba laam yaa shin) holds many mysteries in each letter and when combined into the name Iblīs even more so.

In the words of Ibn Arabi, Iblīs “The Greatest Shaykh”, does not

supplement himself before the Intellect, for Iblīs is the Imagination". The

powers of man, both spiritual and physical become obedient to the Spirit,

but the Imagination does not. The Arabic term is ‘Wahm’ and may be

interpreted as the ‘imaginal faculty’, he continues, "without images, there

will be no spiritual realization for Reality can only be experienced

through its manifestation".

Alif = a ا 1 Fire

The alif belongs to the element of fire. Because of its shape, the alif

resembles the numeral 1. It symbolizes a person's essential individuality

as well as Harmony (Baphomet). According to the Sufi Ibn Ata Allah

Abbas (d. 1309): “this name (alif) is derived from ulfa (good company),

because it unites and agrees (ta’lif) with the other letters”. For some,

however, the alif represents Iblīs Šayṭān, because like him it does not bow

to God. Alif relates to the South and Šayṭān.

Shaykh Ibn al-‘Arabi in his second chapter of "The Meccan Openings”

writes: The alif is isolated in writing. This means that it cannot be written

connected to the letter following it. The alif thus symbolizes the

transcendent, unqualified essence. The downward stroke of the alif

symbolizes universal manifestation from the highest state of Being to the

lowest one.

In “The Orient of Lights” Rajab Borsi states that all the letters are derived

from the Light of the alif. He states that each letter subsists by means of

the secret of the alif, while the alif itself is the secret of the Word. The alif

is seen by him as the symbol of the Intellect. The alif is the letter of the

First Created from which all the degrees of the rest of the universe

proceeds.

Ba = b ب 2 Air

The letter ba represents the number two and belongs to the element of

air. Just as the alif is the first vertical letter, ba is the first horizontal letter

and it is suitable for representing other letters such as ta, tha, and nun,

according to the diacritical signs placed above or below the stroke. The

diacritical sign placed below the stroke represents, for Sufis, the origin,

essence, and being of all things, in strict analogy with the Bindu (.) of

Tantrism and Yoga. According to shaykh ad-Dabbaagh the Ba

corresponds to inner peace. Ba relates to the East and thus Lucifer the

Morning Star.

Laam = l ل 30 Earth

‘Laam’ is the twenty-third letter of the Arab alphabet. It represents the

number thirty and belongs to the element of earth. It symbolizes perfect

understanding (gnosis). The Laylat al-Qadr, (Arabic: “Night of Power”)

starts with the ‘laam’. This is a night in which the seeker is favored with a

special state of illumination, in which he learns his True Potential. It is

the time when the seeker begins to arrive at the Source of Union with

their Greater Self and the stage of matured deep wisdom. Shaykh

ad-Dabbaagh informs us that the ‘laam’ corresponds to the perfected

science and thus is related to spiritual al-khemia. Laam relates to the

North and thus Belial.

Yaa = y ی 10 Æther

‘Yaa’ is the twenty-eighth letter of the Arabic alphabet. It represents the

number ten and belongs to the element of æther. It means Completion of

Knowledge. Yaa leads back to Alif and the Cycle of Spiritual Transcension

is completed. Yaa is related to the fifth element or The Quintessence

called Azoth from Medieval Latin, 'Azoc' being originally derived from

Arabic al-zā'būq "the mercury". Its symbol is the Caduceus and is thus

the pre-Islamic Hermes, Mercury, and Thoth called Utarid.

Sin = s س 60 Water

In the science of the secrets of the letters it represents the number sixty

and belongs to the element of water. It symbolizes the glory of our

Greater Self/GodSelf. It symbolizes personal destiny and can be summed

up with the words Sirr-e-Sirr (Mystery of Mysteries) and thus relates to

the West and the Key to Leviathan.

I = alif (fire) The Baphomet. Harmony of Greater Self with lesser self

B = ba (air) Essence of Self. One's Greater Self Consciousness/Psyche

L = lam (earth) Gnosis. Spiritual Alchemy. Philosopher's Stone

Y = yaa (æther) Utarid. Azoth. Completion. Transcension

S = sin (water) Gnosis of one's Greater Self

I have now unveiled The Secret Name of Iblīs Šayṭān.

Alif Ba Laam Ya Sin (IBLYS) Alif Balaam Yashin أليف بلعام ياشين

Each letter corresponds to a Cardinal Direction, its relative Element, and

Prince of Hell. Yaa reserves a special significance in that it is the essential

agent of transformation in Alchemy called Azoth from the Arabic

Bial-zā'būq which means "Mercury" who is Hermes, Thoth, and the Great

Arabic Jahiliyyan Deity Utarid the Father of Majiq.
